Cake with Pears and Chocolate – Really Scrumptious Combination

When the summer comes and there are fresh pears on the market, I just love serving them to my family – in a fruit salad or in a dessert.

I like the taste of pears as they are sweet, smooth and are so delicious with yoghurt or in a cake.

I present one very easy to make recipe for a Cake with pears and chocolate*. It takes almost no time to get the preparation done, then you just need to have the patience to get the cake baked and enjoy.

The recipe calls for chocolate pieces, but I sometimes use chocolate chips as well and the results are as good.

This cake is so smooth and velvety, juicy from the fruit and so yummy with the chocolate. My little ones the whole weekend were coming back to the kitchen to have some more of it.

  • 1 cup flour

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 3 eggs

  • ½ cup sunflower oil

  • 1tsp baking powder

  • 1tsp vanilla extract

  • 3 pears – remove the seeds, peel and slice in small cubes

  • 100gr chocolate chips or 1 plain chocolate chopped in small pieces


  1. In a mixing bowl beat the eggs with the sugar until well combined

  2. Add the oil, the flour sieved together with the baking powder, vanilla extract – mix well by hand or using a mixer. You should get a thick cake batter

  3. Cover the pear pieces with flour, remove the excess, add them to the batter and stir until well covered with the cake batter

  4. Prepare the baking tin by greasing it and sprinkling some flour (or you can put a grease-proof paper on the bottom of the tin)

  5. Pour the batter into the tin, cover with the chocolate chips or pieces and bake in a pre-heated at 180°C oven for 35-40 minutes or until golden on top

Leave it to cool down before serving. Have it for breakfast, for dessert or with your afternoon cup of coffee or tea.

    I really enjoyed your post that pear and chocolate cake looks so delicious. All I need now is some vanilla bean ice cream 🙂

    I’m a big fan of cobblers. I tried a recipe from the food network for the pear and apple cobbler. I didn’t have apples at the time and just decided to use pears. I was in heaven as their texture and sweetness hit the spot.

    The cake looks very delicious and it seems it isn’t hard to make it. So, I must give it a try. It’s good that the chocolate chips can used too, because it’s easy to get them where I live. The problem is that pears are not always available here. Can they be replaced by apples sometimes. I know the taste will be completely different, but maybe still good?

      Hi Sandy. I prefer to use pears as they are usually sweeter and not that hard as apples, but when baked with the yummy cake batter the apples would be nice as well.

      Please try it and tell me if you liked the taste. If not, try making the cake with other fruit – apricots, peaches, etc.
