Coconut Prawns – Yummy Appetizer or Part of the Main Course

I like seafood a lot, even better than fish. I try to cook different dishes using different types of seafood – shrimps, prawns, crab, lobster, mussels, octopus, squid, scallops, etc.

I also like the taste of Chinese food, but, I admit, I am not very good in preparing it, so I rely on the deliveries from our local Chinese restaurant if we want to have some.

Today I am presenting a recipe that is easy to do and is full with flavours – Coconut prawns.

It’s a recipe that may come close to the taste to the Chinese food I’ve had, but don’t take my word for it. The prawns were yummy, crispy, juicy, inviting to have another one.

Try this simple recipe and have a delicious dinner with the people you love.

Coconut Prawns  Coconut praws

  • 1 pack cooked and peeled king prawns, about 200gr

  • 1 egg

  • ½ cup flour

  • 2/3-1 cup beer

  • 1tsp baking powder

  • 1,5 cups desiccated coconut

  • oil to fry

  1. In a bowl mix the egg, half of the flour, beer and baking powder

  2. Put the other half of the flour and the desiccated coconut in another bowls

  3. Each prawn roll in the flour, then in the egg mixture and in the desiccated coconut at the end, until you have all of the prawns ready like that

  4. Leave the prawns over a kitchen paper in the fridge for 30 minutes at least

  5. Then fry the prawns in a really hot oil for 4-5 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden

I served the coconut prawns with sweet chilli sauce and fried egg noodles with soy sauce.

Have a lovely dinner!

Those look really great! I would never have guessed that you hadn’t ordered those in… and yum, great idea to pair them with a sweet chili sauce!
My husband has a saying “If it’s from the sea, it’s not for me”. I think I’ll have to work on my kids liking sea food though, because I have to try this recipe, and probably it wouldn’t be good for me to eat them ALL!

Hi Marlaine, my husband is the same so I have all the yummy seafood at home.

Those coconut prawns were easier to make than I expected and were so crispy and delicious. Try them and let me know what you think.

      Happy holidays
