Easy Sunday Mornings – Waking Up To the Yummy Smell Of Hot Breakfast

I love Sunday breakfasts. It’s when my family has had enough sleep, everybody is relaxed and is usually in a good mood. It is time when I try to spoil my kids with something extra delicious and preferably hot/warm, even during the summer. Sundays are lazy in my family and I try to cook as little as possible, preparing only recipes and meals that don’t take a lot of time – easy and relatively quick!

So, this Sunday let’s prepare some fried bread slices – an easy recipe that my mum used to prepare for me many years ago and I still remember the smell of the hot bread spread with some jam mmmm!

I love preparing easy recipes that my mum used to do with so much love and warmth towards us and she loved mixing things. This recipe comes with a twist – my mum used to put cheese between the bread slices, which makes them really delicious and I guarantee you will want to prepare those soon again!

Fried Bread Slices

Ingredients (for 4 people):

  • 14 bread slices

  • grated cheese

  • 2-3 eggs

  • ¾ cup milk

  • 1tsp vanilla

  • oil

  1. Arrange the bread slices on the kitchen board/table

You can even spread some butter on them, but I usually don’t

  1. Put some grated cheese on half of the slice and top with a slice with no cheese

The result should be something like a cheese sandwich

  1. Make the mixture for frying dip: mix the beaten eggs, milk and vanilla

  2. Dip each sandwich in the egg mixture and fry in heated oil, both sides until golden

  3. When ready you can roll about each fried bread in sugar mixed with 1-2 tsp cinnamon

Serve with variety of jams and a hot drink (milk, tea or coffee). Enjoy!
