Egg Roulade – For Breakfast, Lunch Or Dinner

The other day I didn’t have anything for dinner and I decided to make something I could use as a side dish or additive to my salad for dinner, as a breakfast with some toast or as a light lunch. I made an egg roulade.

Below you can see the recipe for my egg roulade, I’ve used crème/soft cheese and added some ham and cheese (my special kid loves ham and cheese). Of course, you can add different things that you like with your eggs – bacon, tomato, spinach, mushrooms, etc. My only advice would be, maybe to always keep the crème cheese as a base for whatever you line for the filling as it keeps the whole meal moist and gives creamy flavour.

I, personally, used plain crème cheese this time, mainly because I didn’t want too many tastes in the egg roulade, but I think if you use flavoured-ones, like soft cheese with chives or garlic, would be nice as well. I would try next time and will keep you posted. I am expecting guests next week and I might try a different flavour-combination for my egg roulades.

I think you should give it a try as well. It was really easy to make the roulade, but everyone enjoyed the meal. It is not only very easy and quick to make, it was a meal for the whole family. And not the least, you can every time add different flavours and make another and another yummy dish.

Egg Roulade   

Ingredients:

  • 5 medium eggs

  • 50-60gr grated parmesan

  • salt and pepper

  • 250gr plain crème cheese

  • 8 ham slices

  • 8 cheddar cheese slices

  • 1tbsp oil

Preparation:

  1. In a bowl, beat the eggs until smooth and add the parmesan cheese. Season with salt and pepper

  2. Grease the baking tray and line it with grease-proof paper. Pour the egg mixture and bake at 200°C for 12-15 minutes

  3. When ready, spread some grease-proof paper or cling film on the table and put the egg layer with the top part facing down

  4. Spread crème cheese all over the layer and arrange the slices of ham and cheese

  5. Using the grease-proof paper start rolling the egg layer until you form the roulade, cover it firmly with the grease-proof paper/cling film   

  6. Keep in the fridge until dinner time, at least a couple of hours

Cut in slices and serve cold or warm, as a main dish or as a side dish. Serve with or without salad.
