Gluten Free Waffles In The Waffle Maker – Easy And Yum

My kid being on a gluten free diet, for medical and health reasons, makes me search for more and more variations for the meals he loves to eat.

One of my kid’s favourite breakfasts are the waffles – sweet or savoury. But where I live gluten free waffles are either almost impossible to find (unless you go to very specific bakeries) or they cost a lot. That is why I decided to do something for my family and bought one simple appliance that would help me make my little ones always loved waffles and much more.

I bought a 3 in 1 sandwich, grill and waffle maker and I should say that this appliance is amazing. I’ve already tried the waffle maker and the sandwich maker and the results were yum, yum, yum.

See my review below of the VonShef 3 in 1 Sandwich/Panini Maker, Waffle Iron & Grill with Removable Plates that could help you prepare delicious meals, no matter what your diet involves.

WAFFLE MAKER PRODUCT REVIEW – PROs AND CONs

Since we introduced the gluten free diet into our lives, I should admit that at first it was very difficult to find all the usual things we liked to eat. Some of the items I still struggle to find, some are impossible to get.

Waffles were inevitable part of our morning routine and breakfast, but before getting this useful appliance we couldn’t have them for a long time.

The waffle maker makes my life easy because it helps me prepare my kids’ favourite breakfast and to be sure that it is gluten free.

You can use this appliance not only to prepare waffles for breakfast, but you can use it to make delicious sandwiches for lunch or for your picnic or grill some meat and/or vegetables for dinner with your loved ones. Your imagination is the limit.

PROs:

  • easy to use

  • easy to store as it is small – I keep it above the breadbox to be handy in the morning 🙂

  • extremely easy to clean, just wipe it out with wet wipes

  • not expensive, but still helps you prepare varied meals for the whole day – breakfast, lunch, dinner

  • non-stick cover plates – no burning, no food stuck

  • indicator lights – red means the appliance is heating up, green means it is ready for use

CONs:

  • it takes some time to bake the waffles (it took me about 5 minutes to make 2 large ones), but you don’t have to be around the appliance the whole time

  • be careful when opening it and removing the ready meal as both the food and the plates would be hot

ENJOY YOUR TIME WHILE EATING THE FOOD YOU LOVE

It doesn’t matter what your reason to get this useful appliance would be – be it to be able to prepare something that you and your loved ones enjoy, but is unavailable where you live (like it was in our case) or just because you want to be able to prepare the meals in a way that you could see what ingredients are used, I am sure you, the people you love and your guests would enjoy the dishes prepared with the waffle maker.

I admit that the reason I got this appliance was to be able to make my little one’s favourite waffles with gluten free flour, but now I use it a lot more than I expected.

Being a 3-in-1 appliance makes it really versatile. I prepare breakfasts – sweet or savoury, I make sandwiches with divers fillings closed and toasted to perfection, and at the end – grill for dinner.

You can try my family’s favourite gluten free waffles as well, see the recipe below.

Gluten Free Waffles in the Waffle Maker

Ingredients (to make 12 waffles):

  • 2 eggs

  • 250gr self-raising gluten free flour

  • 420ml milk

  • 120ml oil

  • 1tbsp sugar

  • 4tsp baking powder

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • 1tsp vanilla extract

Preparation:

  1. In a large bowl, beat the eggs until fluffy

  2. Mix the baking powder with the flower and sieve them into the bowl. Start adding the milk and oil by stirring the batter constantly

  3. Add the sugar, salt and vanilla extract and stir to get a smooth batter

  4. Heat the appliance and when ready for use, using a ladle, pour from the mixture enough to cover the plates, do not over-fill it

  5. Close the appliance and leave to bake, do not open in the first 1-2 minutes. After that check from time to time to see when baked to your desired colour

Serve the waffles warm or cold, sweet or savoury. Enjoy!

My savoury suggestion: When the waffles are ready, put some grated cheese on one of the waffles, cover it with the other waffle and close the lid for a minute or two to get a melted cheese savoury waffles.

I am happy I decided to buy this appliance. Having it makes me happy that I can provide food in accordance with my family’s dietary requirements and even my little one (being on the gluten free diet) can enjoy something he loves, but could not be easily found where we live.

That is why I would definitely recommend this appliance – 3-in-1 waffle maker to anyone who has special needs about preparing their food, to anyone who likes to cook and would love to see what exactly goes into their meals, to anyone who loves to be able to make different type of food at the same time (plain waffle and chocolate waffle or cheese sandwich and ham sandwich, etc.)
