Man’s Dish – Steak With Mushrooms

I love vegetable dishes, including salads. But my husband would always choose first the dish with the meat, then he would try the vegetable ones.

He especially likes pork steaks. I also like them and I usually prepare them by seasoning them with salt and pepper and frying them quickly in hot oil. I love them prepared like that.

Unfortunately, my husband would prefer to have them prepared in a more special way, with added flavours and preferably a little bit more tender.

That is why today I am presenting the recipe I’ve used to make him his favourite dinner – pork steaks with mushrooms.

The recipe is very easy to make, doesn’t need much preparation and the results are phenomenal – the steaks were juicy and tender because of the wine, the mustard added flavour together with the onions, mushrooms and gherkins.

Try it yourself and you may love it too.

Steaks with Mushrooms 

Ingredients:

  • 4 pork shoulder or sirloin steaks

  • 2 onions, cut in slices

  • 5-6 gherkins, sliced in slices

  • 100gr butter

  • 200gr mushrooms, cut in slices

  • 1 cup red wine

  • 150gr grated cheddar cheese

  • seasoning – salt, pepper

  • mustard

Preparation:

  1. Tenderize the steaks and season with salt and pepper both sides

  2. Place in the baking tray and each steak cover with thin layer of mustard

  3. Then on top of each steak arrange the onions, mushrooms and gherkin slices

  4. Pour the wine in the tray, place knobs of butter over each steak and sprinkle the cheese, add ½ cup of water if needed

  5. Cover the tray with foil and bake for 40-50 minutes at 230-250°C

Serve with baked or mashed potatoes and fresh salad.
