Savoury Pastry – Good To Enjoy With Loved Ones Or Guests

I like baking. The smell of the warm, home-made bread or cake is something words can’t describe and also something that everyone enjoys.

Today, I want to present to you a recipe my mum gave me. She was a great cook and those savoury pastries she used to make are one of my most favourite snacks.

I think those pastries are so delicious and you can enjoy them for breakfast, snack or light lunch, with the people you love or serve them to the guests during your next party.

I made these savoury pastries with cheese this time, without any additional condiments (mainly because I just love cheese). But, if you prefer, you can always add some other flavours as well to make them even more appealing to you, like poppy seeds, smoked paprika, parsley, chives, nuts, etc.

This recipe is suitable for everyone in the family, is easy to make and is extremely delicious. I am sure you will want to make those savoury pastries again and again.

Savoury Pastries with Cheese

Ingredients (I made about 40 small/nibble pastries):

  • 75gr crumbled feta cheese

  • 50gr grated cheddar cheese

  • 30gr grated parmesan cheese

  • 125gr soft butter or margarine (soft, not melted)

  • 100gr plain yoghurt

  • 3gr bicarbonate of soda

  • 180gr flour

  1. Put the bicarbonate of soda into the yoghurt and leave to activate

  2. In a bowl, put the cheeses together with the butter and yoghurt and mix well

  3. Add the flour and continue kneading until you form the dough (not too soft, a little bit crumbly)

  4. Use your hands and form a ball with the dough, cover with cling film and leave in the fridge for 2+ hours

  5. Take out of the fridge, cut in 3-4 parts. Using the rolling pin roll each part into a circle and cut triangles

  6. Start to roll each triangle, from the wide part to the pointy end, to form the pastries – roll them tight, do not leave them loose, will not rise enough when baking

  7. Continue until you’ve cut all parts of the dough into triangles and have all of them rolled into pastries

  8. Line a baking tray with grease-proof paper and place the pastries, bake at 180°C until ready and golden in colour

Serve with jam or not.
