What appliances do you use at home to help you prepare delicious food easily and quickly?

For a long time I was wondering whether to chose a slow cooker or a multi cooker.

According to wikipedia:

A slow cooker (also known as crock-pot in the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand) can be defined as a counter-top electrical cooking appliance that is used for simmering, which requires maintaining a relatively low temperature and allowing unattended cooking for many hours of “boiled” dinners.

A multi cooker can be defined as an electric kitchen appliance for automated cooking using a timer.

The device is operated by placing ingredients inside, selecting the corresponding program, and leaving the multi cooker to cook according to the program, typically without any need for further user intervention. Usually the multi-cooker can

Some multi cookers can be used as slow cookers, but they also can usually boil, steam, cook rice, bake, roast, grill, fry, stew, prepare yoghurt.

As those products are similar in their use, I would consider the advantages and disadvantages of both, just by highlighting the differences. See below:

  • the multi cooker is multi-functional – can boil, steam, bake, roast, some even grill, fry, stew food

  • it’s very easy to use

  • unattended cooking – saves time that you can do anything you like while preparing the next yummy dish

  • very easy to clean

  • both prepare delicious and nutritious meals

  • the multi cooker can prepare any meal you and your family loves, using different cooking techniques

  • it’s almost impossible to get the cooking wrong – the food always tastes delicious

  • after cooking the meals the appliances turn the KEEP WARM function and you can always be met by warm food when returning home after long hours at the office

  • these appliances are not big and are easy to take with you when travel

  • the slow cooker boils food by simmering it for many hours on low temperature

  • both appliances are expensive to buy

  • the slow cooker needs a lot of hours to prepare the meal

Taking into account the fact that the multi cooker is multi-functional, you can prepare many different dishes just by using one small and simple to use appliance, I chose the multi cooker.

If I am storing one more appliance at home, let it be one that would help me in more than one way. Just think, any other appliance in your kitchen can usually do just one thing, in accordance with what it was designed for. In the same time, having a multi cooker means you have several different appliances in a small space and not only that, but it can cook almost unattended – just through in the ingredients you are going to use, select the program and enjoy your time while the dish is ready to serve.

I believe the multi cooker is the better option and because most of the appliances can be also used as a slow cooker as well. That is why I would definitely recommend Tefal MultiCook Advanced 45-in-1 RK812142 to anyone who wants to live life to the fullest and not be a slave in the kitchen.

Thanks for this great review. We have a slow cooker that I use on a weekly basis. We love making chicken in it. I usually prepare it in the morning and leave it on low the whole day and by dinner it’s yummy and delish.
Also I had a hard time reading the names of the slow cooker and mulit cooker due to the fancy and small script.

Hi Batya. I’m glad the slow cooker helps you in the everyday preparation of food.

I really love my multi cooker as well. It helps a lot and always prepares delicious meals.

      Have a lovely week.

Very interesting article on slow and multi cookers, i am thinking of buying a slow cooker, but now reading your article i am unsure of witch one to buy now.
They both have there benefits pro”s and con’s, i am edging towards the slow cooker.
I liked your recipes on chicken wings, i will try as soon as i make my mind up.
In your opinion would you recommend a cooking book to go with either cooker, that i could read before i make up my mind what cooker to buy?

    1. Ellie

Hi Gareth. I personally like the multi cooker more because it can cook other ways then just stew like the slow cooker, but the slow cooker does a perfect job as well when you need a meal ready without much effort.

Even for my multi cooker I use a cook book for the slow cooker – 200 Light Slow Cooker Recipes. It offers a lot of ideas. Hope it helps, it even has a Kindle edition option.

      All the best,

I Love my slow cooker still. I can put anything I want into it in the morning and go along what I need else to do.

I am always looking for new recipes as well. I can see though the multi usage of a multi cooker, but isn’t this a bit the same of a pressure cooker?

I have one of those too and can cook multiple meals as well.

It certainly sounds and looks intriguing to learn more about this multi cooker.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about the subject.

I love my multi cooker as I can use it like a slow cooker and also to fry and bake dishes in it as well.

Pressure cooker works more like the slow cooker, just much faster.

I would love to hear about your favourite recipes for the slow cooker.

      All the best
