Unconventional Take On The Bread – Try Stuffing It With The Things You Like

I love kneading bread and then baking it, to smell the delicious aroma of warm bread filling the home feels very cosy to me and in the cold winter months I try to make the house more homely by making our bread sometimes.

This time I am offering you a recipe how to use the left-over bread you have to prepare an easy and really yummy supper that everyone would enjoy – your other half and, also, your children.

The recipe is very easy to prepare, doesn’t take a lot of time and you can use whatever you have in the fridge or you specifically love and want to eat this evening. Just experiment and make it according to your taste.

Below see my suggestion:

  • left-over whole bread (not sliced and preferably a little bit stale or harder)

I used a soda bread, because it is easy to make (I would also provide the recipe for this delicious bread), it is harder and is very easy to cut without losing the shape and is yummy)

  • bacon

  • cheese

  • baby tomatoes, roasted peppers, spring onions, olives, etc.

  • butter


  1. Cut the top of the bread in squares

  2. Cut all the ingredients you would use to stuff the bread in small cubes

I used cherry tomatoes, roasted peppers, spring onion, olives, bacon and cheese, but you can put whatever you like – sausages, chillis, mushrooms, etc.

  1. Stuff the vegetables, meat and cheese in all the cuts of the bread

You don’t have to fill every cut, but make sure to have enough of the filling close to each other so that when tear the bread up everyone to get not only bread, but stuffing as well

  1. Place a knob of butter all over the bread cuts and put in the oven

  2. Bake for 30-40 minutes at 200°C

I used a very simple salad my family loves – tomatoes, mozzarella and glaze of balsamic vinegar.

    Hi Ellie, stuffing bread with bacon and cheese is a wonderful idea! I like that you included tomatoes, peppers and olives as well to balance off the taste. I am going to try adding spinach and mushrooms as well, just get more veggies into the meal. I think it makes a complete meal served with salad too. Thanks for this great idea!

      Thank you Lily. I think the recipe is very delicious and you can add different veggies every time. Just try to cut them smaller so that to be able to squeeze them in the cuts in the bread 🙂

    Yum…and i love your Page Name… ‘Eat Play Love’. I often find myself throwing away bread that is a day old. Its such a waste and this is a quick easy delicious meal.
