Use Your Multi Cooker – Cook Whole Chicken With Cider

I like preparing meals in my multi cooker. It doesn’t need a lot of preparation, you can put all the ingredients in the pot and set the time so that when you and your family come back home after a long day doing errands a hot meal would be waiting for you.

This Sunday I needed to prepare a bigger meal as we were expecting guests, but because the weather was so good I wanted my kids not to miss playing outside maybe one of the last weekends before autumn comes when it is usually rainy. That is why I decided to cook the meal in my multi cooker – easy, no fuss, always perfect results.

This time I am presenting a recipe from one of my favourite cook books that I use when I need an inspiration what to prepare in the multi cooker that my loved ones haven’t had before or at least not very recently. I was inspired by the recipe, shown on the cover page of one of the newer editions of the cook book – 200 Slow Cooker Recipes.

200 slow cooker recipes

I’ve used the Pot-roasted whole chicken with lemon recipe and adapted it for my multi cooker by adjusting the temperature and cooking time. Other than that, I followed the recipe – used almost all of the ingredients the recipe suggests and added almost none of my own.

The result was delicious. The chicken got really juicy and tender, but maybe because I used a cherry cider, instead of the dry cider, it was a little bit sweet. It tasted very good, just a little bit unusual for me.

I am glad that another new recipe cooked easily in my multi cooker was a hit with my guests. Click here to see the multi cooker I am using and I am happy to recommend to everyone who treasures their time and want to prepare delicious meals easily.

Whole Chicken with Cider

  • 1 whole chicken, about 1,5kg

  • 2-3tbsp olive oil

  • 1 onion, cut in half-rings

  • 500ml dry cider

  • 3-4tsp mustard

  • 1litre chicken stock

  • 3 carrots, cut in rings

  • 1 lemon, cut in wedges

  • salt and pepper

  • 1-2tsp Italian seasoning, mix of oregano, basil, thyme, rosemary, parsley, sage

  1. Wash and dry the chicken

  2. Choose FRY cooking program and adjust time for 15 minutes. Add the olive oil, onion and carrots and fry until lightly browned

  3. Add the chicken and fry from every side, until it gets lightly golden

  4. Add all the other ingredients and seasoning, using the BOIL or STEW program cook on high for 2-2,5 hours

  5. Remove the chicken and vegetables from the pot and arrange in a serving tray

  6. Use 500ml from the sauce in the pot and mix together with the crème fraiche to prepare a gravy to moisten the meat when serving

Carve the chicken like you usually do and serve with a fresh salad or baked potatoes.
